Message Me A Smile

Message Me A Smile

This SMS generation has come out with many ways to convey emotions across the waves: LOL :) :( ;) ROTFL, U get d drift? Since technology is about convenience, how about a phone that texts your emotional status without much fuss?

The point in favor of the "Icon Phone" is the simplistic gesture-based input. SMS addicts often complain of Text Messaging Syndrome; however the pen-styled input application will probably take care of this complaint!

Want to send a smile? Simply curve the phone upwards; shake the wand once to send out the SMS.

Angry? Send out a frown!

Vanity? Flaunt it like a bracelet!

Besides its innovative SMS feature The Icon functions like any other normal phone. I can picture it being a rage amongst the texting-teens.

Drawing in 3D

The Wacomvision is a three dimensional canvas for creating and viewing art, products, and models. Three dimensional paintings can be created and shared online. Brush size, pressure sensitivity, and brush type are customizable. Snapshots and videos can be taken of your artwork. Not going to make it to the Louvre? You can use this product to download and view preserved art up close and from all angles.

In a business applications, imagine being able to walk around a concept car or viewing a model without a rapid prototyping lab, model making time, or money. Three dimensional models can be sent between clients to review work. Notes and requests can be marked and saved on certain areas of the models using the pen tool. You can also virtually render, paint, record, and capture views.

This product uses a state of the art virtual tracking system called IGPS Technology. This modular product has three transmitters that are wireless and placed around the edges of your 3D canvas. After the transmitters are automatically calibrated for each use, they use invisible infrared laser signals that create a three dimensional environment. The pen is imbedded with a sensor in the tip that streams its exact 3D position using the signals from the transmitters. The information is relayed back to the console and wirelessly transmitted for viewing through the virtual glasses.

A USB connection to the console allows for viewing of outside virtual models to be used as underlays. You can choose to view your artwork with or without the actual physical background. Multiple people can be linked to the same projection so you can work as part of a team. In order to bring up the interface, the button on the pen is pushed. The interface menu can be dragged and docked all around your environment. The button on the top right hand edge of the glasses can be pushed to allow for picture and videos to be taken.

Zipper That Got Me All Entangled

Zipper That Got Me All Entangled

Thanks to all for appreciating the Yi Earphone, but I must say that some of the responses that I have been getting are pretty overwhelming. All loyal YDers know that we editors merely showcase talents of designers and are in no way involved in the designing process. So it took me by surprise when a mail came in threatening me for showcasing "this copied design"! Well my-dear-upset-designer, I didn't design it and tell me what are you gonna do about this Universal Zip Lock Earphone?

Agreed this doesn't use a zipper as an excuse, it uses Zip Loc for inspiration instead. It also lacks the fancy volume control button seen in the Yi. But it's a functional piece that looks to addressing the same tangled wires issue with another similar perspective.

So what's next? Will get Zip Loc get upset with me now?

Is it fair to hold us writers responsible if we showcase someone else's similar talent before you send in your works? Fight your own designer-ego battles dude!

YD does not and will not indulge in such ego-centric battles!

We are where we are because of our readers and the support of designers.

Let's not squabble over who designed what first!

It’s Raining Pictures From My Shower

It's Raining Pictures From My Shower

When you see a sleek little projector like this Photo Shower, you expect it to be packed with tech-specs and groundbreaking features; but NO! No, no, no! It DOES NOT boast of any such things, in fact it goes out of the way to ensure that you get the point: It's a simple uncomplicated projector. It's USP; it pours images down the screen like the cascade from a shower head; that's it! Drops of photos trickle down the screen. Functions on the device are pretty basic but it sure scores high on the glam quotient.

Sometimes simple devices re-packaged in a glamorous avatar could be the things that we look for in life. For example I'm sure many of you may have been content with browsing through your photos from albums. The joy of developing a film roll and seeing the end results has its own old-world charm. However innovation was necessary, hence we see digital cameras and digital picture frames peppering our lives. I wonder how many of us find that same pleasure when we browse through buttons of a frame as we did when we leafed through the book albums.

Rustic, nostalgic, old, whatever!

If I have to give-in to the current trends, then I may as well adopt easy-to-operate projectors that spill out images from a shower head! As long as they go with my décor; I'm good!

Zip Up Tangles

Zip Up Tangles

Your trouser fly just influenced my friend Ji. Quit smirking, coz his YI earphones concept will take care of a lot of wire-tangle-hassles in the future, if it ever gets to production. Simple thought process and application! If pants can have a zipper to hold in the essentials then why the idea can't be used on earphones to manage them when not in use! Zip then open when you want to use them; zip them shut when you want to store them.

Did I mention that it even features a volume control button?

No? Oh…ok…now you know, so happy Zipppiiinnnggg!

Can We Have Some Inukshuk Ice

So you geared to up to host the best party ever; finger-food's doing the rounds, buffet table is spilling over…laughter in the air; drinks stocked up in the bar. Clinking glasses to merry toasts….but what the heck; Scotch is on PLAIN ICE! No Bloody Mary ways! Swanky parties call for the Polar Ice Tray rescue mission. Pebble-shaped exteriors with molds that let you craft the perfect crystal clear Inukshuk Ice and cracked ice if you so desire.

Pour the water into the mold and set it in the freezer; pretty soon the Scotch will look sexy on the crystal cool bubbles-free ice!

Inukshuk is the official emblem of the 2010 Winter Olympics to be held in Vancouver, and is the inspiration behind the mold.
